A look behind the scenes
Lake Zug has stories to tell – and we are listening. Every month, we take you behind the scenes, to where our stories come from.
Suzana Fahrni is a warm-hearted host with a creative mind and vision.
When rhythmic salsa sounds drift from the loudspeakers on Lake Zug – or during other musical events – Suzana Fahrni is never far away. The co-founder of Gastronautic is also the heart and soul of the entire team – together with her husband Köbi, she takes hospitality to a whole new level.
Warmth that makes waves
While Köbi prefers to take care of the office and banqueting, Suzana is where the action is: on deck, right in the middle of the guests. “I'm on the ship every day,” she says with sparkling eyes. A fixed job title? No, there isn't one. “Everything I know, I learned from my husband. I do everything – from à la carte service to working at the cash register.”
What does hospitality mean to her personally? Suzana sums it up: “We are there for our guests – with heart, passion and a smile.” And the guests feel it too. Many come back regularly. “They hug us, take photos with us, thank us – that means a lot to me. They show us respect.” She is particularly proud of her team, which is made up of 28 different nationalities: “This unique team spirit is simply amazing!”
A breath of fresh air on the lake
The Serbian-born chef came to the catering industry for love – and found her true passion on board a ship. She used to work in an office: “It wasn't for me – not enough contact with people,” she says. Today, it's the interaction with guests that drives her. And her creativity!
Whether in Lucerne, Zurich or on her travels, Suzana is an imaginative doer who seeks out new trends and brings them to the ship. “I enjoy decorating, creating atmosphere with fresh flowers and mixing cocktails for our lounge concept.” Her signature touch is also evident in new projects such as the hop-on hop-off offer with aperitifs and music. She never loses sight of the team: "I am very close to our employees. Each and every one of them is dear to me."
Between family and front of house
A small child waits at home – yet Suzana is always there, whether her colleagues have concerns or the kitchen is on fire. “I'm always there for them.’ She laughs: ‘Sometimes I'm even more on the team's side than my husband's – but we're still a perfect team.”
