In demand: Brunch cruises
The recipe for success of the Lake Zug brunch cruises: a lovingly prepared buffet with regional products, garnished with personal stories from the host. – It pays to book early.
The star is the buffet itself. Lovingly arranged on trays, adorned with flowers and fruit decorations, this gourmet landscape is often photographed. The food on the buffet comes from the region: meat from the Forster butcher's in Zug. Bread and Zuger Kirschtorte from Confiserie Treichler. Cheese, yoghurt and Bircher muesli from the Rust cheese dairy in Walchwil. Eggs from the Schillig family and strawberries from Buuregarte Boog in Hünenberg. Only the salmon travels further. "We haven't yet managed to farm Zug salmon," says host Köbi Fahrni from Gastronautic with a grin.
The brunch cruises organised by Zugersee Schifffahrt have been a classic for over 20 years – and are fully booked practically every season. there are 40 trips on the programme this year, including Easter, Mother's Day, 1 August and Father Christmas brunches.
Köbi Fahrni is a host with heart – and a native of Walchwil. He knows every corner of Lake Zug and the people behind the products. When he presents the buffet, he points to the Walchwil mountain where the cheese comes from. This combines what belongs together: landscape, enjoyment and slowing down.
The menu includes hot dishes such as bacon, scrambled eggs and rösti, as well as nine types of bread, Prosecco, juices and Nespresso à discrétion. This is followed by a dessert buffet with pistachio panna cotta, burnt crème, exotic fruit salad and cakes.
The brunch cruises are often a family event. Colouring books and pencils are available for children. Birthdays and christenings are also celebrated. This mixture of regionality, relaxed organisation and personal touch makes all the difference. It is not just a brunch, but a Sunday for all the senses on the water, with a view of the origin of what you are enjoying. – And sometimes so inspiring that guests spontaneously book another trip.
Work up an appetite? We'll be on the water again from 15 March 2026. It's worth booking early! And why not give a gift voucher for a brunch trip?
